RESEARCH
PLANNED RESEARCH
The Center of Excellence for Research in Engineering Materials (CEREM) addresses fundamental scientific problems of technological significance which require an approach that transcends traditional disciplines. The scientific program will be based on concept-driven approach. Interdisciplinary Research Groups will not be delineated by the specific type of materials investigated, but by the conceptual framework they address. This enables the Center to explore synergistic connections effectively and to exploit fundamental principles driving the behavior of many materials. The Center will also be based on collaborative and highly interactive approach. This will be reflected in the multidisciplinary make-up of the research teams. The center will provide synergistic and interactive programs in research, and launch new initiatives to address the changing needs of our society.
The center will create a unique interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary environment that allows members to undertake materials research of a scope and complexity that would not be feasible under traditional center. Center’s research is designed so that members can work closely with their colleagues in industry, national labs, and academic institutions, allowing them to make significant advances in materials research, which will ultimately improve the quality of lives.
PAST RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
The College of Engineering has consistently been active over the years as it maintained a strong group of researchers conducting research and development in the field of engineering materials. These researchers have a track record of research at national and international level. Numerous research projects have been carried out and hundreds of research papers related to engineering materials have been published in refereed national and international conferences and journals. The past experience in the research activities can be presented on basis of funded research projects, publications, and awarded patents in the area of Engineering Materials.
FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS
The College of Engineering has funded projects in the general area of engineering materials through its Research Center. External funds were also sought through national and private companies and national science and technology institutions. The obtained research funds covered wide range of engineering materials such as metals, composite, smart materials, semiconductors, polymers, and corrosion.
PUBLICATIONS
The strength and expertise of the faculty of college of engineering in the area of Engineering Materials can be presented by the publications that they have produced over the years in national and international journals during their tenure at King Saud University.
AWARDED PATENTS
The research activities of the College of Engineering are highlighted by the patents that have been awarded to the college. These patents show the college perseverance in research and the consequent award of patents.
