The Plant Collection contains samples and different kinds of plants of special economic importance. It also contains the roots of some plants and samples of kinds of infected plants together with educational samples.  The museum also houses samples of sea moss found in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, in addition to a unique collection of plants taken from different provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Herbarium:

The herbarium of the Department of Botany and Microbiology includes nearly four thousand dried samples of the Kingdom's plants, identified by their scientific names and families and places of origin and the dates of procurement.  So far, the herbarium houses 5000 kinds of flower plants.  Like the Flora Book, written by the College's faculty, the herbarium is an important record and reference about the Kingdom's plants.

There are also many maps which locate the positions of different minerals throughout the Kingdom together with the geologic maps of the different regions of the Kingdom.

Computer Laboratories:

These labs are located in the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, the Department of Geology, and the Department of Zoology.  They include a number of personal computers made available to faculty and students' use.

Applied research:

B.Sc. and postgraduate students do research of applied nature in various scientific fields, including laser and chemic-industrial research, as well as research relating to diseases, their causes and effects.  There is also research relating to plant and animal preservation. These research projects are supervised by specialized faculty.

The Astronomical Dome

The College has an astronomical telescope equipped with the latest special technology for astronomy to observe the sun and the moon, and to check solar and lunar eclipses.  The telescope is available for those interested in watching celestial bodies.

Research, Publication and Translation:

The college of Sciences is committed to giving faculty's research due attention: it makes laboratories at their disposal and facilitates resources, equipment and periodicals necessary for research.  Currently, there are in the College applied research projects which relate to the environment of the region.  Faculty have significant interest in publishing books in both Arabic and English, as well as translating scientific books into Arabic; there have been published books on chemistry, botany, zoology, geology, physics, and mathematics.  The College issues a Scientific Journal (The College of Sciences Journal) in English, which publishes the original papers of the College faculty and of the faculty of other universities. The College exchanges this journal with most of the world's universities, research centers and scientific associations.  Many papers have already been published in international journals.

Scientific Associations:

The College of Sciences has contributed to the establishment of the following scientific societies: the Saudi Biological Society, the Saudi Chemical Society, the Saudi Society for Earth Geosciences, the Saudi Society for Sport Sciences, and the Society for Physical and Astronomical Sciences, each of which has its independent office in the College premises.
