The profession of pharmacy is not limited to counting and dispensing pills. It is a rewarding profession that involves working closely with other health care professionals and patients. Traditionally, the role of the pharmacist is to dispense prescription drugs as prescribed by physicians. A pharmacist is responsible for checking pill count and dosage as well as ensuring that the drugs prescribed do not adversely interact with any medication that the patient is already taking. In addition, a pharmacist is responsible for consulting patients about medication and answering any questions a patient may have concerning drug therapy (prescription and over-the-counter medication).
