Career Opportunities in pharmacy

TO BE A PHARMACIST, IS AN EXCITING PROFESSION

The profession of pharmacy is not limited to counting and dispensing pills.  It is a rewarding profession that involves working closely with other health care professionals and patients.  The profession of pharmacy is undergoing dramatic changes, with pharmacists assuming an expanded role in the delivery of health care.  The pharmacy profession offers flexible work schedules, a broad-spectrum of opportunities, direct patient contact, and top salaries.

 Traditionally, the role of the pharmacist is to dispense prescription drugs as prescribed by physicians.  A pharmacist is responsible for checking pill count and dosage as well as ensuring that the drugs prescribed do not adversely interact with any medication that the patient is already taking.  In addition, a pharmacist is responsible for consulting patients about medication and answering any questions a patient may have concerning drug therapy (prescription and over-the-counter medication).  However, the role of pharmacists is broadening, allowing for added opportunities in clinical settings, hospitals, drug companies and biotechnology companies. 

 Although most of us are familiar with our neighborhood community pharmacies, many are unaware of the other exciting opportunities in the pharmacy field such as:

 

§   Hospital Pharmacy - Staff Pharmacist, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Administrator.

§   Clinical Pharmacy.

§   Pharmaceutical Industry - Research and Development, Manufacturing, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacogenomics.

§   Government Agencies - Ministry of Health Medical Supply, Governmental Hospitals and Clinics, Other Governmental health facilities.

§   Colleges and Universities - Professor/Lecturer.

§   Nuclear Pharmacy - Chemotherapy Pharmacist.

§   Alternative and Herbal medicine.

 

The pharmacy profession is an exciting profession. It is this latitude that makes pharmacy so appealing; you can enter a different aspect of pharmacy with ease if you so desire.

 Thus, pharmacy is an important and trustworthy occupation that reaches into almost all aspects of medicine and healthcare.  From direct patient care and guidance to the forefront of pharmaceutical research, pharmacy offers carriers in many fields. While giving pharmacists the opportunity to promote the well-being of their patients.
